Green tea embodies the refreshing spirit of spring. For tea enthusiasts, the finest way to welcome spring is with a cup of delightfully aromatic green tea.

How should fresh green tea be made to bring forth its full flavor? Brewing methods vary depending on the variety of green tea. Today, we’ll show you three easy ways to make green tea in a glass cup.

The glass cup, one of the most common tea utensils in daily life, is affordable, practical, and clear. It not only allows us to admire the graceful unfurling of tea leaves in water but also makes it easy to brew a delicious cup of tea quickly. There are three brewing methods: Top-Pour Method (上投法), Middle-Pour Method (中投法), and Bottom-Pour Method (下投法).

Top-Pour Method (上投法)

Brewing Steps: “Water first, then tea.” Fill the cup with 80°C water until it is about 70% full. Then add the tea leaves and allow them to unfurl.

Best for: Delicate green teas, such as bud-only or one-bud-one-leaf varieties, like  Dong Ting Bi Luo Chu or Maojian green tea.

Middle-Pour Method (中投法)

Brewing Steps: Pour 85°C water into the cup until 1/3 full.Add tea leaves, then gently swirl to release aromas. Finally add water to 70% full.

Best for: Moderately tender green teas, such as Premium Dragon Well Green Tea or Anji Bai Cha Green Tea.

Bottom-Pour Method (下投法)

Brewing Steps: “Tea first, then water.” Add tea leaves first.Wet them with some water. Then swirl. Finally top up to 70% full.

Best for: Larger, sturdier, or less tender green teas, such as Tai Ping Hou Kui Green Tea or Organic Gunpowder Green Tea.

Each of these three brewing methods has its own advantages. Choosing the proper one depending on the type of green tea and your own preferences will enhance your tea experience. Remember that a moment of attention, a cup of perfection — even basic brewing processes can bring forth diverse tastes and fragrances.
